ABSTRACT
It is interesting to find that without seeing this Frenchman's production of the ‘Three Sisters’ we should never have been aware of how much was missing in previous English productions; and even now, so exquisitely balanced, subtle and unexaggerated is the touch of M. Saint Denis that it is still difficult to say precisely why no other production has ever been so satisfying, so ‘right’ in every respect.
