ABSTRACT
THE ‘LIVING MONUMENT’ of Miss Bradbrook's title is explained by her as
the English chronicle history which belonged to Shakespeare's days at the Theatre and remains its living monument; at the end of his life he returned to material recollected from his earlier acting days and refashioned it in his final romances.
