ABSTRACT
McCulloch's theory of wages has been widely abused and frequently over-simplified. Although ultimately no more satisfactory than the other Classical expositions of the determination of wages, and although at times suffering from internal contradictions and from clashes with the development of other strands in his thought, it was, nevertheless, considerably more complex than has generally been realized.
