ABSTRACT

The introduction presents an overview of key concepts discussed in subsequent chapters. This book steps into the rapid expansion of the casino gaming industry to consider the role that corporate social responsibility (CSR) should play in a world where legalized gambling exists alongside traditional industries such as manufacturing and information technology. This book provides the background in both CSR and the casino industry necessary to understand the particular complexities that evolve from enacting a program of corporate social responsibility in a casino industry or by a government that operates casinos to generate public revenues. The book looks at three illustrative elements of CSR in the Las Vegas casino industry such as labor relations, environmental impact, and community engagement. Finally, it discusses the inconsistencies shown by the Las Vegas case study and this might mean for the future enactment of CSR in the casino industry as well as for the role of CSR in successful and ethical public relations practice.
