ABSTRACT

Vsevolod Eduardovich Bagritsky was born in Odessa in 1922. His father was the well-known Soviet poet Eduard Bagritsky. 1 In 1926 the Bagritskys settled in the town of Kuntsevo, where his father died of asthma in 1934. In 1937 Eduard Bagritsky’s poetry was declared anti-Soviet and was no longer allowed to be published. His widow, Vsevolod’s mother, Lidiya Gustavovna Suok, was prosecuted in 1937 and released from prison camp only in 1956. Vsevolod also had an older brother who was killed in the Winter War between the Soviet Union and Finland in 1939. 2
