ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on key concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book explores the elements of India's national security and counter-insurgency, namely, the use of force and the framework of peaceful conflict resolution. The conflicts are wide-ranging and spread across the country, with varying levels of allegiance, depth of reach, ideological moorings, ethnic connotations, and class struggles further propelled by the illegal underworld of arms and drugs across porous international borders. Armed movements have established roots within India, which is affected by a wide range of issues: from demands for greater autonomy within the Indian Union to outright secession and regime change within India. The main goal of Indian counter-insurgency in this context has been to ensure that the Naxal movement does not spread across the states of India as stated in their political goal.
