ABSTRACT

I now venture a synthesis that combines Jung's alchemical and astrological myths within the frame of the grail legend. My rationale is that this serves to further clarify and contextualise Jung's multifarious representations of the alchemical Mercurius and thus also allows for a life-myth construction centred on this figure. My approach is to first consider Emma Jung and Marie-Louise von Franz's The Grail Legend and discern specific narrative elements of interest. After this, I make a few critical observations and then identify a ‘loose end’ in their (and Jung's) treatment. This is then addressed under the title of Jung and the Holy Grail.
