ABSTRACT

Governments and organizations need to build the best systems to let corporations thrive. A refocus toward the long term is central to this because only a long-term perspective can satisfy the full range of stakeholder distresses. Success can only be achieved when short-term pleasures are postponed for long-term values. Cultural factors also form part of the picture; what is required, not just in the United Kingdom but also in the United States and mainland Europe, is a change in the culture of corporations themselves, in the way companies are managed and the manner in which executives behave. Trust has been breached and the sharpening and refinement of the aforementioned corporate governance deficiencies will help reinstate it. Trust, cannot be sustained without meaningful attention to the educational environment. Historically, problems similar to those suffered during the last crisis will re-emerge in approximately one to two decades.
