ABSTRACT
To understand the evolution of an organization, a person must first know its origins and early history. In this chapter, we cover the various attempts at establishing world peace and unity before the United Nations was formed. Then, we cover its beginnings, the setbacks it has faced, and the more recent challenge to one of its basic tenets: the principle of collective security.
