ABSTRACT
If the sentence in (1a) is read as (1b), broken into three parts with % indicating the pauses, (1b) obviously disaccords with the syntactic structure of (1a). SPE handled this case with the application of the readjustment rule. However, the real study on interface systematically began in the 1980s within the framework of Government and Binding (GB). According to the GB model, syntax is the input for both phonetic form (PF) and logical form (LF), as seen in (2) (Chomsky 1986a, 1986b; Baker 1988; Haegeman 1991).
