ABSTRACT

Spain is grappling much more drastically with the problem. In future, a Spanish pupil not reaching the required level will be promoted, but will be compelled to do additional remedial work in weak subjects as well as following the new course. Some of this work is done in extra periods at the end of the day, but most is covered by the use of individual work-assignments, or fichas. The pupils have some measure of freedom to plan their work, and how to put matters right, and can see themselves making positive progress. The fichas were home-made, duplicated sheets; but, predictably enough, and at the Menendez Pidal College in Salt the author saw a great deal of work being done from rather expensive loose-leaf printed sheets. The Ministry booklet which sets out the principles of the method mentions five kinds of ficha: these are ficha directipa; ficha de informacion; ficha de desarrollo; ficha de control and ficha de recuperacion.
