ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we explore the importance of accurate labour market information and intelligence for optimum decision-making. Labour market information consists of information about the supply side of the labour market (the people looking for work) and the demand side (the types of job available, salaries and working hours). Labour market intelligence is the way that experts interpret labour market information and make predictions about the future.

An over-reliance on information giving creates a real danger of overwhelming the client, rather than equipping them to do their own research. Our desire to be an expert and meet all the client’s presenting needs can get in the way.

We discuss some motivational and creative approaches to using information, drawing on motivational interviewing and visualisation.
