ABSTRACT

To give your best to clients, it is important that you build your own resilience toolkit. Career coaches who dedicate themselves to the job may be at risk of burnout, especially if their organisations do not nourish them or align with their values. In this chapter, we consider how you can stay resilient and tend to your own physical and mental well-being in what is a rewarding but often demanding role.

We examine the role of the professional body and how a professional network (possibly including a supervisor, coach or mentor) can provide support. We also discuss using continuous professional development to keep skills and knowledge up to date. We outline two models of reflective practice (Kolb 1984; Gibbs 1998) that can be used to support your learning. Finally, being able to highlight your successes and measure the impact of your work will ensure that it gets the recognition and investment it deserves.
