ABSTRACT

In this chapter we unpack the developmental perspective more fully and show how holding this lens is both valuable and essential for leadership coaching. I provide an overview of Wilber’s integral–developmental model, as well the adult-worldview-developmental perspective based upon Laloux’s organisational paradigms and Clare Graves’ value systems. Following on from the last chapter, we show how these developmental models also provide systemic perspectives on what is going on within ourselves, our organisations and society. We broaden and generalise the developmental view to the evolutionary perspective by exploring the shape, principle and pattern of the evolution of human consciousness, and suggest how the evolutionary spiral can be mapped onto the egg diagram map of the psyche.
