ABSTRACT

This chapter of the FLSD manual presents examples of initial assessment evaluations using the FLSD as a way to know the client’s history and to engage the client in the therapeutic process of counseling. The concept and value of using an expressive technique such as the FLSD with individual clients is demonstrated and explained. Individual FLSD can be used as an adjunct to the larger family drawing, or it can be used in the counseling process when only working with one client. The symbolic expression of the process opens up the potential to reveal information on a holistic, nonverbal level. Three different client situations are presented and the FLSD process is explained using the step-by-step process already demonstrated in previous chapters.
