ABSTRACT

The new phenomenon of shared economy, which enables free, open and friendly searches, and acquisition of information ‘created’ by a ‘digital entrepreneur’, dependent upon access to community-shared assets, community-based economy, and platform economy, is discussed in this chapter. These vast changes have triggered developments in EE with regard to digital content—peer-to-peer models, networks, online platforms—that enable users to create, share and distribute content, sharing physical goods, infrastructures and space—a business model that capitalizes on physical spaces, infrastructures and the ownership of goods; and crowdfunding—an online platform for raising money that activates participation in entrepreneurship by feasibly obtaining financial support. These new trends are portrayed in a case study on the unique model of a Canadian co-working space, completing Chapter 6.
