ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on some very important behaviors coupled with strategies to include them in leadership development plan. These behaviors include visibility and accessibility, role modeling, proactivity versus reactivity, utilization of data and aligning of vision and mission. Platske suggests that an effective leader also focuses on the visibility of their staff to the organization as well as visibility for themselves. All leaders have varying, inherent capabilities and comfort levels with certain skills, and it is not uncommon to be leery of data. One leader cannot do everything alone, but it is also true that one leader cannot effectively analyze and manage all problems personally across the organization. To improve the reach of the leader, all leaders in the organization need to have a good grasp of data and quality improvement. All the aspirations of a leader will go by the wayside without the ability to align the organization.
