ABSTRACT

We conduct research so that it can help guide individuals, organizations, and society to make better decisions. And so, it is unfortunate that a large share of research is subject to biases, misinterpretations, and an inadequate screening process. This chapter describes the types of questions that can be addressed with regression analysis, examples of how flawed some research is, and inherent biases in the research process. The latter includes publication bias, which is that the more interesting results are more likely to be published. And so, to restore trust in research, we must start doing it better. The chapter then describes how the book will teach readers to conduct, interpret, assess, and scrutinize regression analysis. And, it describes how the book does this without the proofs and unnecessary high-level math that is common in classes on regression analysis (or, Econometrics).
