ABSTRACT

Intellectual Disability, dyslexia and dyscalculia are neuro-developmental disorders which will almost certainly make it difficult for the student to cope with the standard classroom program. At the other end of the scale, students who are intellectually gifted or exceptionally talented may also be mismatched with what is on offer in their classroom. This chapter provides checklists to help identify these four special needs and profile students’ individual differences. Supporting notes include information about each special need, suggested strategies for supporting the student in the classroom, recommended further reading and information about useful organizations and their web sites.
