ABSTRACT
It should be investigated whether China is seeking to alter the status quo through "grey zone" coercion that neither undermines economic cooperation nor triggers military confrontation. This strategy calls for regional players to protect bilateral and multilateral interests against any such "grey zone" pressure in the East and/or South China Seas and integrate the policy to deal with Senkaku-related contingencies. 1
