ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a final milestone in the journey of exploring creativity using systems thinking ideas. It does so by revisiting and extending previous insights in relation to the nature of creativity as a lone genius effort and how some systems thinking insights could provide intermediate orientations for an ethics of creative living. The chapter also refers to the metaphor of the ‘shopping mall’ in order to raise awareness about how management education and therefore creativity could be stifled by continuing to promote fastness and immediacy in students. Three orientations (self-cultivation, open and responsible engagement, embracing failure) are proposed to help creators pursue potentially more meaningful and systemic journeys or projects. These orientations could also help them to make more sense of their experiences using systems thinking and to connect with other and possibly higher ideals in their lives.
