ABSTRACT

Crest's service club was a product of the Sixties. Students of that era wanted to contribute to the metropolitan community and assuage their feelings of guilt about the wealth and opportunities afforded to them. Crest is a suburban coed day school located a few miles outside a large Midwest city. The School's philosophy, excerpted from the catalogue says: Crest is committed to academic excellence, in the conviction that only the disciplined mind can free the individual to develop his or her potential. Crest concerns itself with the total development of the individual in preparation for a challenging university or liberal arts college. Since the advent of coeducation at Crest, the advisor has been concerned about the club becoming female oriented. The club is run almost exclusively by students. It has no formal connection to the school in terms of budget or administrative control.
