ABSTRACT
The enigma machine in World War II was an encryption device by which communications by Germany could be made obscure and unintelligible to their enemies. So, without it, or without breaking its mechanisms, Germany’s communiques were enigmatic. The difference between a mystery and the ineffable is the difference between the wisdom of God and the nature of God Himself. It’s not that human beings never had the concept of a god. There have been many fabrications, constructions of what a god would be like. However, the God of the Jews, who is the God of the Christians, exceeds them all. The nature of God transcends human ability to comprehend. God is inscrutable. God does intercede in human history. God alters our personal histories, and does so on the individual, group, and societal levels. Some of those interventions have been written down and referred to in Scripture, but there are daily relations with God all over the world going on.
