ABSTRACT

In Chapter 5, gender and care are analyzed with/in several child-car encounters that emerged in the study and are considered diffractively with other car stories near and far from the classroom. The chapter describes the presence of toy vehicles in early childhood spaces and explores how/where/when the toy vehicle was developed. Gendered discourses and practices connected to cars are discussed, and toy vehicles’ complexity is explored through three tangled tales of technologies, recalls, and touches.
