ABSTRACT

Violence has plagued humans from the beginning of time and will likely be with us until the end of time. Equipment and technologies can help prevent and manage violence, but awareness programs empowering people to manage the risks they impact or are impacted by are essential elements of any program. Organizations need to move from an ad hoc and reactionary approach to a formal, proactive approach based on good risk and business management practice. Cultural change is successful when it is paced to the capacity of people working on behalf of the organization to absorb the changes. Change management requires an implementation plan, management commitment, and benchmarks of success along the path. Violence touches us all and rightfully is a very emotional and litigious subject to address. Decision making is complicated by the desire to protect human life or make the problem go away at any cost.
