ABSTRACT
The mystery of life, lies hidden, as Darwin himself admits, in profound and impenetrable obscurity. Of that do, and can know nothing. It is with the procession of organic reproduction, when once organic life was established, with which are concerned. When remember, according to Darwin’s own showing, that to greatly modify a single species, or to convert an old species into a new one, it takes as long as the making of different geological formations, and runs into millions of years, the question naturally arises in the mind, what became of the mocking species during all the ages that the Lepidopteran tailors were making for it the stage suit of clothes. Darwin himself admits that countless species have had their day and become extinct, and it would take eternity to work out the various modifications, to account for the difference between say an ant, and an elephant.
