ABSTRACT

The native is a profound believer in wisdom or guile. He thoroughly agrees with the philosopher that 'wisdom is high above the strength of men and the swiftness of horses'. In the very olden days a certain woman had a boy-child. No sooner was he born than he ran out of the house and came to his father who was working in his field. The women were very angry indeed, and began to chase the child, who ran and ran till he quite escaped them. He had now come to some farms where there were a lot of men gathered who had been out hunting. The men could not put out the fire, and all their guns were destroyed, but they gave chase to the mischievous child and swore they would finish him off entirely if once they could catch him. Krakra Nyansa ran and ran, but women followed hard on his heels and entered the village close behind him.
