ABSTRACT

In order for any firm to embrace corporate sustainability, it must have leaders who will champion the cause and be able to create a working environment that would be willing to accept change when it is necessary to ensure the long-term corporate sustainability vision of the firm. In this chapter, both concepts are discussed in depth for any manager to understand that implementing corporate sustainability strategies can be both challenging and rewarding. The concepts presented in this chapter include characteristics of corporate sustainability leadership; transformational and transactional leadership; the values-based model of transformational leadership; corporate sustainability and power; organizational politics and corporate sustainability; organizational change and corporate sustainability; and organizational change leadership and corporate sustainability. The chapter begins with a discussion of the role of transformational leadership at Unilever related to corporate sustainability. The chapter finishes with Pablo Isla’s, the CEO of Inditex, commitment to corporate sustainability.
