ABSTRACT

Ethics and corporate sustainability are synonyms in their focus of how the actions of one person can impact many people. The decision-making process of a manager should be based on ensuring the decisions and actions by the firm are beneficial to its stakeholders. It is the accountability and responsibility of the behavior of humans that shape society as the foundations of ethical behavior. Both ethics and corporate sustainability should be integrated as part of the manager’s decision-making process instead of being afterthoughts. In this chapter, some concepts that are presented include the relationship of corporate sustainability with the philosophical foundations of ethics; corporate citizenship; corporate reputation; corporate philanthropy; human rights; whistleblowing; and corporate culture. The chapter concludes with a discussion of the unethical behavior of Juul Labs. The chapter begins with a discussion of how the co-founders of the company Patagonia are helping to save Patagonia.
