ABSTRACT

Law enforcement personnel seem to be in the middle of a variety of social conflicts for at least the last 100 years in the U.S. Extremist propaganda in social media perpetuates the turmoil for many individual police officers as well as the profession of law enforcement as a whole. Extremist propaganda that promotes violence is also a challenge for law enforcement because they are often the target of the violence, or the communities they police are targets. This chapter examines training for law enforcement on dealing with extremist propaganda, monitoring social media, the radicalization of law enforcement officers, and anti-cop versus pro-cop propaganda in social media.
