ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the information that is gathered about the effects of the school support programme on the pupils and staff in schools in the International Live Events Association. From the initial contacts with secondary school staff, it became apparent that there were considerable differences between schools in the attitudes and opinions about the support centres held by head teachers. The chapter assesses the extent to which schools had used centres during the Autumn term and to enquire as to their demand for centre provision. It sought to discover the schools' perceptions of the effects of centres on the pupils who attend them, on mainstream pupils, on teachers, and on school management in general. A considerable number of heads also commented that their schools had benefitted as a result of improvements in overall school management and a calmer atmosphere in the classroom.
