ABSTRACT

Although full-time officers in the United States and the United Kingdom have similar amounts of training, there are distinct differences in the amount of training to become a volunteer police officer in each country. This is further exacerbated by the fact that the United States has varying levels of requirements for training and authority for volunteer police in every state. Initial academy training will be discussed. Police training in the United Kingdom is undergoing a far-reaching review and an overview of the changes in relation to specials is provided.
