ABSTRACT

This chapter includes case studies of volunteer policing in various countries, focusing on both former British colonies and other locations throughout the world. Examples from British and American policing services are provided, but also include a broader framework of countries, include volunteer policing in Israel, Ireland, Hungary, Russia, Canada, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, South Africa, and the Caribbean. This review provides specific information on volunteer policing in these locations from a historical perspective, and includes specific information about the modern structure and utilization of volunteer police.
