ABSTRACT

The system is loaded in and now sound technician have to figure out how to mix the show. They can forgive a horrible mix as long as the correct mics were always open. This is a major challenge when the musician is learning the show and the timing of the actors. It is at this point where the mixer has to size up what the designer expects. The mixer's job is simplified and repeatable. He puts the faders at -10 and mixes, but the inputs are all over the place to make it sound balanced. There are a lot of strong opinions about script mixing in this business. Everyone knows it is necessary, but a lot of macho bravado goes along with not mixing with a script. Control Groups is another popular digital interpretation of the analog VCA. Whatever term is used, the basic function is essentially the same.
