ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book explores the concepts of human rights as a foundation to exploring the relationship between these rights and tourism. It establishes the foundation for examining human rights in the context of tourism studies, and focuses on key concepts of human rights, the operation of tourism enterprises, sustainable development, and the political dynamics of tourism and human rights. The book provides a narrower focus on specific human rights challenges in tourism and hospitality. It poses discussion questions to further the discourse on the relationship between tourism and human rights. The book focuses on the recent COVID-19 pandemic which has not only had unprecedented health and economic impacts but has also introduced a wide range of travel restrictions.
