ABSTRACT

As in chapter eight, I consider here a city partitioned in two concentric zones [1,a] and [a+1,b], occupied by industry and residences respectively. However, unlike chapter eight where no environmental issues were recognised, I assume here explicitly that the inner land use pollutes the outer and that pollution exhibits distance–decay. Without any conceptual sacrifice one could restrict attention to the volume of pollution crossing the border between the industrial and residential zones of the city.
