ABSTRACT

The chapter begins with a monologue of a stranded traveller scam. The chapter includes definitions of social media (SM) and a discussion of the difficulties in interpretation of the research findings on trust and SM. The research reveals the complex interplay between privacy concerns and trust in SM. The chapter reviews the use of SM in romantic relationships as they bear on trust. The chapter culminates in an applied focus regarding how people might cope with alleged misconduct by SM organizations and how they might avoid being the victims of scams.
