ABSTRACT

Professor Ray Page, Chairman of Governors at Bullers Wood School for Girls discusses some of the significant changes for a governing body when a school becomes grant-maintained. He had been connected with the school for thirteen years before it achieved grant-maintained status, as parent, governor, LEA adviser and senior officer. Throughout the chapter there is an emphasis on the differing roles of the governing body and the school’s senior management team. Bullers Wood School was incorporated as grant-maintained on 1 January 1991.
