ABSTRACT

The primary school staff team is both a functional and a developmental grouping. The members of the team will have as their major concern the education of the children in their care or a specific aspect of that education. The priorities of the primary school staff team are a product of the interrelationship between the philosophy of the school as expressed through its activities, and the management and organisation of those activities. Targets represent a way of helping individuals, teams and whole schools to be clear about what they are doing and how successful they are being in a wide range of situations. Delegation within the primary school is inevitable since no team leader or headteacher can possibly do all the necessary work. The fair and effective delegation of duties, and the establishing and maintenance of communication between team members, are crucial components of such a realistic approach to the work of the primary school.
