ABSTRACT

Communication in schools is an extremely complex topic and a thorough coverage of it would deal with everything from policy making at senior management level to individual job descriptions for each member of staff, departmental and team communication systems along the way. It might include formal and informal interviews with staff, pupils, parents and others and would have to look at types, patterns and the content of communication. Team problems which have their roots in poor communication are often the product of our attitude to the process of communication. Team leaders especially should be aware of those factors which inhibit or facilitate good communication as well as knowing which forms of communication are appropriate in which circumstances. Meetings are an extremely common form of communication in primary schools. Knowing how any meeting is to proceed is helped by understanding what type of meeting it is and by being aware of the intended outcome.
