ABSTRACT

Palm prints pose a distinct challenge to latent print examiners due to their vast areas of friction ridge detail in comparison with the relatively small surface area of a fingerprint. Fingerprint examiners often struggle with placing a partial latent print in the context of an exemplar print. In this chapter, common ridge flow patterns and creases are introduced in order to assist the latent print examiner with determining the location and orientation of the latent palm print. In the laboratory exercise associated with this chapter, the most common areas of ridge flow and major and minor creases of the palm will be observed. Palm print comparisons will be conducted utilizing ACE-V methodology.
