ABSTRACT

The learning context is very important to consider when planning learning for students with dyslexia. Learning style has a static feel to it while learning preferences can be seen as more flexible and can vary depending on the task and the context. Information can also be obtained by asking the student questions about their own preferences for learning. Children’s learning patterns are often the result of how they were taught, the learning environment and ethos of the school. Success is an essential factor for motivation and for effective learning. Cognition is important for learning. It describes the actual processes involved in learning a piece of information. Cognition, as indicated, means learning, whereas metacognition means learning to learn. Self-esteem is important for learning. A child will learn more effectively and will be more motivated to learn if his/her self-esteem is high.
