ABSTRACT

Analytics can be particularly useful in blended courses. Because blended courses tend to produce more online data than traditional onsite courses, teachers can leverage that data to track student performance and support learners who might be at risk. Teachers can look to course assessments to understand whether or not the class is performing adequately in the blended course. Student performance in a blended course can be compared with results from face-to-face or fully online courses—presuming that the outcomes are the same, and assessments are equivalent. Students spend about ten minutes a week reflecting on their learning and their experience in the blended course. Teachers need a simple way to assess the effectiveness of their blended design and teaching mid-way through the course. Teachers who are more experienced with blended teaching and course design can peer-mentor other teachers.
