ABSTRACT

Imagine that after analyzing your data someone asks: what were you thinking about when you were assigning codes to the significant texts in the data? And what strategies did you use to analyze the data? Consistent documentation of your reflections would help in adequately addressing these questions. Memoing is a very useful way of tracking your thought process as you interact with data and engage in data reduction activities. There are various ways of documenting your reflections and procedures. You could use pen and paper, a Microsoft Word document, or a recording device. These tools could help in preserving your thoughts for future use. In this chapter, I’ll discuss the uses and benefits of memoing.
