ABSTRACT

Live audience response is a method that enables researchers to collect and record live and spontaneous audience/viewer responses and reactions. It can also be referred to as audience response systems, personal response systems, group response systems, classroom response systems, participatory audience response or real-time response. Software enables researchers to create questions before the event, work out in what format to present visualisations and decide on the method of audience response. Live audience response is a popular method in education, nursing, psychology, politics, media studies, marketing and advertising. There are a variety of live audience response digital tools and software packages available. Some are aimed at the education sector, some are aimed at the business sector and others provide tools that can be used in a wide variety of sectors for research purposes. Live responses can also be sent to participants’ devices, or hidden completely, depending on the subject and purpose of the research or event.
