ABSTRACT

Mobile methods, enable researchers to connect with participants across geographical boundaries, instantaneously and when they are on the move, providing the opportunity for collaboration, co-construction and co-creation of knowledge. A fixed time and place for participation in the research project is not required, enabling participants to go about their daily lives while connecting with researchers. Their mobile interaction, such as phone conversations, messaging and texting, and their mobile activity, such as location, movement, browsing and viewing, can all inform research. Some mobile methods research is highly visible, interactive and participatory, whereas other methods are less visible, working in the background to collect and analyse data. Mobile sensors and mobile phone-based sensing software to detect, measure and respond to activity, location, proximity or touch, for example.
