ABSTRACT

Sensors are devices that are used to detect, measure and respond to some type of input from machinery, people or the environment. There are a wide range of applications for sensors including habitat, infrastructure and climate monitoring; temperature and pressure monitoring and metering for the oil, gas and water industry; and automotive engines and transmissions research, development and monitoring. In health and medical research sensors can be used to monitor health and provide detailed insight into health behaviour and risks to inform health promotion, self-care and medical intervention. They can also be used to measure contact networks for infectious disease transmission. In education sensors can be used to research language learning through spoken interaction and to encourage effective, efficient and flexible learning.
