ABSTRACT

Video analysis is a term that is used to describe the study of visual recordings that have been produced from video cameras, camcorders, mobile phones, tablets, drones and video surveillance systems, for example. Video analysis can be used to investigate human behaviour, action and interaction; to analyse movement and motion; and to determine environmental, temporal and spatial events, for example. There are different types, terms and/or methods of video analysis that are used within different disciplines and fields of study and for different purposes. Video analysis is a generic term that tends to be used in the social sciences, education, science and technology, arts and the humanities to describe various methods that are used to study visual recordings. There are a variety of digital tools and software packages available for video analysis, with differing functions, capabilities, purposes and costs. Intelligent video analysis is a term that is sometimes used interchangeably with video content analytics.
