ABSTRACT

The costs of running a careful and thorough reliability engineering program are enormous but are considered insignificant when compared to losing weeks’ or months’ worth of production output because of a systems failure. The Refine phase will maintain the momentum that was initiated during the Analyze, Define, and Execute phases. It will reinforce enterprise alignment and organization-wide ownership of the strategy. The Refine phase is executed using problem-solving tools along with the establishment of a culture of continuous improvement. Solving problems in a business setting can be a challenge for technical experts. The Refine phase presents several problem-solving tools and techniques to assist the problem-solving team as they work to develop the best solution for their specific situation. The Refine phase can be the difference between a strategy that is just another attempt to make a difference and a strategy that drives long-term continuous improvement.
