ABSTRACT

First, four methods of adapting research data into play script form are described. Then, four selections are included that illustrate ethnodrama and ethnotheatre. “Becoming a Man” is a brief, self-standing monologic account about adolescence. “Second Chair: An Autoethnodrama” is a one-man play about musicianship with an accompanying narrative about its development. “The Drama and Poetry of Qualitative Method” includes two scenes from an ethnodrama adapted from the works of educational anthropologist Harry F. Wolcott. The final selection, Street Rat, dramatizes the ethnographic fieldwork and poetry of co-authors Susan Finley and Macklin Finley, who studied homeless youth in pre-Katrina New Orleans.
